HOISINGTON – The Central Plains tennis team captured its fifth spring title at Hoisington April 18. Oiler singles and doubles entries swept Hoisington, Ellsworth and WaKeeney Trego in windy conditions. The Oilers (30) won the team title and Ellsworth (18) placed runner-up.

No. 1 singles Peyton Ryan, a 2-time state runner-up, No. 2 singles Camden Stiles, No. 1 doubles Paxton Dody/Peyton Dody and No. 2 doubles Nethan Cauthon/Alden Metro all finished 3-0.

In championship matches, Ryan defeated Ellsworth’s Brendan Anderson, 8-0; Stiles defeated Ellsworth’s Guage Weber, 8-2; Dody/Dody defeated Ellsworth’s Tyler Conley/Jacob Torgersen, 8-3; and Cauthon/Metro defeated Trego’s Lucas Dreher/Mason Yingling, 8-1.

"The conditions Thursday weren’t the best, but the guys handled the wind well," said Oiler coach Michael Ryan. "We need to adapt to whatever situation is thrown at us. We’re down to three meets left in the regular season. We need to keep getting better every day.”
