Billy Gene Mortimer, age 90 passed away at his home in Great Bend, KS, on June 12, 2020. He was born on July 2, 1929 at Okema, OK, the son of Dale and Bonnie (Capps) Mortimer. He was a Driller at Strata Beredco and a Truck Driver for Fox Petroleum and McDonald Tank. On Aug. 28, 1954 he married Theresa Marie (Stoecklein) at Great Bend, KS., she passed away in 1999. He was a US Army veteran during Korea, 1948-52, a member of the VFW and Prince of Peace Catholic Church both of Great Bend, KS. Survivors include two sons, Michael Mortimer (Teresa), Stafford, KS., Andrew Mortimer (fiancé Heather Burns), Stafford, KS; five daughters, Annette Britton (companion Tim Crisler), Albert, KS, Paulette Granger (Lester) Burdett, KS, Audrey Fry (Randy), Great Bend, KS, Bonnie Strobel (Jerry) Seward, KS, Billie Jean Lohr (Travis), Great Bend, KS; 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Billy was preceded in death by his wife Theresa; a son, Matthew Mortimer; a daughter, Charlotte Cranston; brothers, Forrest, Glynn and Dean and a grandchild. A memorial graveside service will be 10:00 AM, Friday, June 19, 2020 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery, rural Seward, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the VFW-Great Bend in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.
