Mary Jane Wells 1925 - 2015

Mary Jane Wells, 89, died April 4, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Dec. 16, 1925, in Fort Scott she was the daughter of James L. and Lillie Mae (Chambers) Parker and was later adopted by Ruth Chidester Noggle. She attended school in St. John and later in Russell, where she graduated from in 1943. On June 1, 1943, she married Wayne Ingalls Grippin. They later divorced. She then married Joseph B. Wells. He died on June 5, 1999. A resident of Great Bend since 1992, coming from Russell, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and reading.
Mrs. Wells was a member of the Southern Baptist Church in Russell.
Survivors include one son, Gary Grippin and wife Jeanie of Great Bend; two daughters, Jolene Schwab and husband Pete of Cincinnati, Ohio and Geneva Lowell of Garland, Texas; three grandchildren, Matthew Grippin, Morgan Grippin and wife Stephanie, and Shannon Hernandez and husband Joe Matthew; and three great-grandsons, Miles, Anselan, and Kendall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Bryant Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Galbraith officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or Meals on Wheels, in care of the funeral home.
