HUTCHINSON – Avis J. Riedel, 84, died Tuesday, March 1, at Garden City. Born Feb. 12, 1927, at Little River, she was the daughter of E. C. and Bessie (Spriggs) Miller. She married Clarence Riedel Sept. 5, 1949, at Lyons. He survives.

Mrs. Riedel worked in rural McPherson and Rice County as a teacher prior to marriage. She was a former resident of Claflin for 36 years, and currently resided in Hutchinson.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Altar Society, Hutchinson. She was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for 36 years and was active in Altar Society and parish, Claflin. She was a current member of the Ralph B. Praeger VFW # 8668 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include: her husband; two sons, Alan Riedel of Garden City and Michael Riedel of Liberal; one brother, Robert James Miller of Joplin, Mo.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by infant son, Kevin Joseph Riedel, and brother, Howard Dee Miller.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin with the Rev. Pascal Klein officiating. Burial was at the Claflin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.
