David R. Martinez 1962 - 2016

David R. Martinez, 54, passed away suddenly on Oct. 2, 2016, at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born on May 6, 1962, at San Antonio, Texas he was the son of Rudy and Mary Lou (Ramirez) Martinez. He attended Gould High School at Gould, Okla. where he excelled at basketball. He later moved to Arkansas where he worked in sheet metal production for 19 years. David had been a resident of Great Bend for the last four years. He loved fishing, yardwork, sports of all kinds, and being with his family. David was known for his big smile and playful manner.
Survivors include two sons, Dylon A. Scheele of Fort Smith, Ark. and David Clinton Martinez of Hot Springs, Ark.; his mother, Mary Lou Mendez husband, Gilbert, of Great Bends; his father, Rudy Martinez of Amarillo, Texas; seven brothers, Steve Martinez and his wife, Dora, of Hollis, Okla., Tony Martinez and his wife, Tracy of Larned, Salvador Martinez and his wife, Edna, of Plainview, Texas, Augustine Martinez and his wife, Sherri, of Spokane, Wash., Javier Martinez of Hollis, Okla., Larry Martinez and his wife, Maria, of Amarillo, Texas and Noel Martinez of Great Bend; one sister, Ruby Perez and her husband, Adam of Lakin; and his long-time girlfriend, Candice Jones and her daughter, Tayshawna, both of Great Bend. David was preceded in death by one brother, Rudy Martinez, Jr.
