Douglas Ray Schenkel, 74, passed away Sept. 13, 2026, at Azria Health in Great Bend, Kan. He was born March 14, 1952, in Great Bend, to Samuel and Marie (Wittman) Schenkel.
Doug made a lifetime career as an insurance sales representative for Aflac. He was passionate in building solid relationships with his clients and ensuring they had the coverage necessary. His compassion for his clients and pride in the product provided, won him many awards and success. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel to play on different courses. He was a proud Ducks Unlimited member and attended many banquets in support. His love for dogs led a life of raising his three dachshunds, Putter, Bunker, and Harley.
Survivors include sisters, Janet Stos and her husband Randy of Lenexa, Karen Hill of Burlington, Colo., and Chris Menzer and her husband Mike of Great Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Wenke; and brother-in-law, Grover Hill.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Burial will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Visitation is available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17, 2026, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family receiving guests from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
