NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. — John M. Cochran, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 28, 2016. Born in 1934, in North Kansas City, Mo., he was the son of John and Essie Cochran. He attended school in North Kansas City until his senior year when he moved to Little Rock, Ark. After graduating from North Little Rock High School, he attended Kansas State University, where he graduated with a B.S. in Education. He later received a Master of Arts from Fort Hays State University. He spent his teaching and coaching career in Colorado and Kansas. He retired from teaching school in 1996, but continued to coach football as a hobby until 2007. His teaching and coaching career in Kansas included Burdett, Dighton, Great Bend and Wichita. During the 38 years he lived in Wichita, he coached at North High School and Maize High School. After retirement, he coached at Friends University and Independence High School.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of the home; four daughters, Bobbi Carriger (Dennis) of Skiatook, Okla., Terri Petersen (Jim) of Parker, Colo., Gayle Davis and Cathy Harris (James), both of Wichita; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 4, at Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to Heartland Hospice.
