LURAY — LaVona Jean Bowen, 68, died May 22 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. She was born July 28, 1942, at Gorham, the daughter of Miles V. and Maudie (Jones) Anthony. She married Ronald N. Bowen July 27, 1958, at Alva, Okla. He died May 27, 2008. A Luray resident for 26 years, coming from Inman, she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Bowen was a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Darrell Bowen of Luray and Tom Bowen of Hutchinson; two daughters, Lora Ensz of McPherson and Cheryl Pemberton of Raymore, Mo.; five sisters, LeeNora Danield of Plains, Diana Howard, Lana Slack and Kay Tracy, all of Great Bend, and Sandra Orr of Denton, Texas; one brother, Billy Joe Anthony of Wichita; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald E. Bowen; four brothers, Jack Anthony, Bob Anthony, Johnnie Anthony and Don Anthony; and five sisters, Opal Casper, Mary Bruno, Wanda Mason, Delpha Wilson and Carolyn Anthony.

Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend, with the Rev. Dick Ogle officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Luray Cemetery in Luray. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home. Memorial donations to the LaVona Bowen Funeral Expense Fund may be made in care of the funeral home.
