Lila Jean Haberman 1934 - 2014

HOISINGTON — Lila Jean Haberman, 80, died Oct. 11 at her daughter’s home in Olmitz. She was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Galatia, the daughter of Henry and Martha (Steinert) Wagner. She married Jim Stoss on July 30, 1952. He died Dec. 25, 1979. She then married Larry Haberman on March 30, 1991. He died Dec. 8, 2006. Lila Jean was a resident of Hoisington, coming from Olmitz. Lila, along with her husband Jim, owned and operated Jim’s Place and the Olmitz Grocery till the early ’70s. She later worked as a bartender for the Eagles Lodge in Great Bend.
Lila Jean was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Olmitz.
Survivors include three daughters, Debra New and husband Tony of Olmitz, Roberta Spangenberg and husband Troy of Hudson, and Bonita Penka and husband Tom of Olmitz; a sister, Alice Batt of Hoisington; and six grandchildren, Jim New and wife Kelsey, Jason New, Kendra Spangenberg, Katlyn Spangenberg, Tap Penka and wife Lindsay, and Sara Penka. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Waldine Wagner; and two sisters, Doris Karst, and Eldora Brower-Ford.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Olmitz with Father Anselm Eke as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery, Olmitz. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Kans for Kids or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
