Marcella James, age 85 years, of Great Bend, Kan., passed away on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 12, 2020 at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus after a brief illness. Marcella was born on May 7, 1934 at Abilene, Kan. to Blanche and Willie Jones Sr. She graduated from Great Bend High School. Marcella was united in marriage to Leon “Leonard” James on Dec. 4, 1964 at Hays, Kan. Leonard passed away on Dec. 15, 1989.  Marcella worked as a Nurse’s Aide, along with providing home care for family members who needed assistance. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Great Bend, Kan.

Marcella is survived by one son, Noland James of California and one grandson; one sister, Blanche Robinson of Great Bend, Kan.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2020 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, Kan. with Pastor Leroy Keith officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery of Great Bend, Kan. The family requests that Memorial Contributions may be made to the Golden Belt Humane Society in Great Bend, Kan.
