LYONS — Nathen Lee Gregory, 79, died Sept. 6, 2015, at his home in Lyons. He was born Nov. 10, 1935, at Burr Oak, the son of George and Bessie Gregory. He attended school in Alton. Before moving to Lyons he has lived in Palco, Alton, Colorado Springs, Colo., and was a longtime resident of Great Bend. He was a fourth-generation farmer of Alton. He was also an auto mechanic, framed houses and did different types of construction. He also worked in maintenance at CKMC in Great Bend.
Mr. Gregory served in the U.S. Army from Feb. 13, 1957, until his honorable discharge on Jan. 31, 1963.
He was a member of the Mt. Ayr Friends Church, Alton.
He married Judy Smee in Zurich, Kan., in 1965; they were later divorced.
Survivors include two daughters, Valerie (Jim) Allton of Great Bend, and Melanie (Rick) Pray of Lyons; three grandsons, Cody Boger, Ricky Pray and Ryan Pray; a granddaughter, Audrey Pray; sister, Iris Mae (Phil) Smith of Texas; several nephews and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; twins Angelina and Richard; and two brothers, Norvil Gregory and Clarence Gregory.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Mt. Ayr Friends Church, Alton, with Pastor Homer Smuck officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Ayr Cemetery, Alton, with military honors by Ft. Riley Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Thursday at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Ayr Friends Church in care of the funeral home.
