Opal M. Miller Jones, 92, passed away January 15, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays. She was born November 28, 1928, in Rush County, to Julius and Amelia (Georg) Muth. Opal married Merle H. Miller January 19, 1950, in Great Bend. Merle died February 25, 1992. She later married Dale W. Jones April 28, 1994, in Las Vegas. Dale died Sept. 19, 2008.
Opal, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, was a homemaker, and for many years worked part time at Dillon’s. She was well known for her cake decorating business, which she enjoyed from 1971 to 2010. Opal was a member of First United Methodist Church, Eagle’s Auxiliary, VFW Post 3111 Auxiliary and American Legion Argonne Post 180 Auxiliary. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She also liked KU basketball, casinos, bowling, and Bingo. She loved to dance.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family for her never ending generosity, her caring heart, and her sense of humor.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Wharton and husband Nelson of Great Bend and Angela Miller and husband Gregg of Alexandria, Va., two grandsons, Spencer Wharton and wife Jill of Great Bend and Mathew Wharton and wife Laura of Great Bend; and four great grandsons, Jacob, Jaret, Brady and Grant. She was preceded in passing by three sisters, Betty Kramer, Norma Gulledge and Nadine Clark.
There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place, however, the register book will be available to sign from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday at Bryant Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life Services are pending for a later date. Inurnment will be in Great Bend Cemetery, Great Bend. Memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church or Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
