Rosalie Mitchell, age 99 years of Great Bend, Kan. passed away early on Sunday morning, June 16, 2024 at Azria Health Woodhaven, where she had made her home for the past nearly three years. Rosalie was born on Jan. 6, 1925 at Charleston, West Virginia, and had been a resident of Great Bend since 1932. She was united in marriage to Lonnie Frederick Mitchell, Sr. on Nov. 18, 1955 at Larned, Kan. Rosalie was a homemaker and also reared and took care of more than 30 children throughout her long life. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Great Bend. Rosalie loved to play Bingo and Pokeno.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Dixon and Brenda (and Dewayne “DJ”) Johnson of Lubbock, Texas; nine grandchildren, Crystal Dixon, Karen Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, LaKeyia Jones, Lisa Johnson, Tisa Johnson, Christina Johnson, Trisha Johnson, and Monica Johnson; two great-grandchildren, Kya Bates and Christopher Johnson; Rosalie’s longtime caregiver and devoted friend Magda Dolatshahi. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lonnie F. Mitchell Sr. in October of 1983; two sons: Lonnie Mitchell Jr. and Harold Mitchell; and one daughter Margaret Ann Mitchell.
It was Rosalie’s wishes that her remains be cremated. Inurnment will take place at Golden Belt Memorial Park Cemetery near Great Bend, Kan. at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation. Charter Funerals of Great Bend is in charge of arrangements.
