TULSA, Okla. — Russell Dale Westphal went to be with the Lord on July 24 in Tulsa, Okla. Born Aug. 25, 1949, in Spearville, he was the son of Cloyd and Betty Westphal of Kinsley. He grew up in Kinsley. He studied architecture at Kansas State University. On May 23, 1971, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Cross, in Lewis. After finishing college they moved to Great Bend where they lived for 16 years. In 1990 Russell and his family moved to Tulsa, Okla., where he continued his architectural career, specializing in custom residential design.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Westphal; three children, Rachael Wright and husband Craig, Chad Westphal and wife Amy, and Annica Thomas and husband Rick; two grandchildren, Henry and Adah Westphal; brother Dennis Westphal; sisters Linda Williams and Alice Boehme; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services were held on July 30 at Christian Chapel in Tulsa, Okla. On Aug. 1 a brief graveside service was held for friends and family at the Wayne Cemetery near Lewis. Memorials are suggested to Petra Field Camps, Inc., a Christian retreat ministry near Tulsa, Okla., in care of the funeral home.
