Sister Connie Haug, O.P. 1934 - 2015

Sister Connie Haug (Sister Omer), 80, died March 26, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters’ convent infirmary in Great Bend. Born Sept. 28, 1934, in Seneca, as Constance Lucille Haug, Sister Connie was the daughter of Omer and Lucille Noll Haug. She entered the Dominican Sisters’ Community in Great Bend on Aug. 28, 1952, and pronounced her first vows on June 13, 1955. She celebrated 50 years of religious profession in 2005.
Sister Connie taught elementary parochial students in Kansas and Colorado for the first 10 years of her religious life. In 1967, she began a second 10-year ministry as religious education teacher in parishes of the Diocese of Wichita. She was a pastoral associate in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in Salina, and in Chanute, and also served in pastoral ministry in Winfield, Arkansas City and Newton. She retired in 2002.
Sister Connie is survived by her Dominican Sisters of Peace religious community; and two brothers and eight sisters: Larry, Michael, and Susan Haug, all of Seneca, Sister Dominic of Great Bend, Doralee Cross of Centralia,  Gerrianne Henry of Kansas City, Mo., Jeanne Heiman of Wichita, Mary Haug of Hiawatha, and Regina Danielle Aldrine and Cathy Wynkoop, both of Topeka.


Sister Connie’s body will be brought to the hospitality area of the Dominican Chapel of the Plains, 3600 Broadway in Great Bend at 3 p.m. on Saturday, where it will lie in state until the Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, with the Rev. Andrew Heiman presiding. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in the Sisters’ Resurrection Cemetery. Both the wake and the funeral will be held at the convent. Friends may call at the convent from noon until the time of the wake Sunday and on Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass.
