TOPEKA — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has rescinded its boil water advisory for the Hoisington public water supply system.
The advisory, issued Oct. 20 for residents north of the railroad tracks, followed a waterline break that caused a loss of pressure in the distribution system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination.
Laboratory tests of drinking water samples collected in Hoisington showed no evidence of bacteriological contamination, and KDHE officials say all other conditions that put the system at risk have been resolved as of Thursday.
Two boil water advisories were issued recently for different parts of Hoisington. An Oct. 16 advisory covered customers south of the railroad tracks to Button Road, including the All Seasons Mobile Home Court in Barton County. That advisory, prompted by a loss of pressure from a well pump malfunction, was lifted Oct. 20 after lab tests of water samples showed no evidence of bacteriological contamination.
Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. Whether the supplier or KDHE announces a boil water advisory, KDHE issues the notice rescinding it after testing at a certified laboratory.
