MIDLAND, Texas — Teodora Hernandez, 87, of Midland, Texas and formerly of Great Bend, passed away in Midland, Texas on Sunday afternoon, July 2, 2017. Teodora was born to Calistro and Antonia (Brito) Hernandez on April 2, 1930, at Alamos de San Antonio mmb Chihuahua, Mexico. She was married to Jose Rubio, and the couple made their home in Great Bend. Jose passed away in 1994.
Teodora was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend and moved to Midland, Texas four years ago. She loved crossword puzzles, sewing, and walking, and also was a great cook. Teodora loved to make corn tortillas and red enchiladas.
Survivors include two sons, Hipolito Rubio and his wife, Martina of Midland, Texas and Candelario Rubio and his wife, Elia of Odessa, Texas; one daughter, Lupe Rubio of Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Teodora was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jose Rubio in 1994; two brothers, Juan and Pedro; and four sisters, Santana, Paz, Maria, and Anita.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Prince of Peace Parish in Great Bend with Father Don Bedore officiating. Interment will be in the Great Bend City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, at Charter Funerals in Great Bend, with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
