SALINA — Vernon Alvin Jantz, 91, died Nov. 14 at Windsor Estates, Salina. He was born Nov. 13, 1923, at Montezuma, the son of Marcus and Adina (Unruh) Jantz. He married Basil (Spires) Griffin on Nov. 28, 1987, at Hoisington. A Salina resident since 2000, coming from Hoisington, Vernon was a member of the Hoisington Bible Church and recently attended Salina Bible Church.  Before retirement, he was a supervisor for Northern Natural Gas, Bushton.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Basil Jantz, of the home; one son, Jerry Jantz and wife Maggie of Bolton, Miss., one daughter, Joyce Curtiss and husband James of Spokane, Wash.; two brothers, Ivan Jantz of Montezuma and Ervy Jantz of Bristow, Okla.; four sisters, Irene Milbradt of Topeka, Lily Unruh of Georgetown, Texas, Ruby Nightengale of Montezuma, and Virginia Yost of McPherson; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Vernon is also survived by Basil’s children, Lloyd Pinon and wife Jolana of Topeka, Steve Griffin and wife Kayla of Salina, Becky Townsley and husband Gary of Minneapolis, Minn., Beverly “Jo” Plinsky and husband Don of Grand Island, Neb., Bonny Wohlcke of Westminster, Colo., and Belva Prins and husband Dave of Waseca, Minn.; and by Basil’s 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in passing by one daughter, Gauvayhna Davis, and a brother, Dennis Jantz.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Hoisington Bible Church in Hoisington with Pastor Gary Clark officiant. Interment will be at Hoisington Cemetery in Hoisington. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday and 9-11 a.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington.
