PRATT — The Barton women’s soccer team had one of its better offensive days of the season Saturday afternoon. The Cougars traveled to Pratt and left with a 4-0 blanking of the Beavers.
The win was Barton’s third in its last five games as the Cougars reached the midway point of the Jayhawk West schedule.
Barton wasted very little time in gaining control of the contest as the Cougars scored in the first 10 minutes and scored all four of their goals in the game’s first 30 minutes.
Jessica Simental got the Cougars on the scoreboard with a goal on an assist from Larissa Fagundes 10 minutes in.
It would the first of three goals Fagundes had a hand, or foot, in.
Fagundes put the Cougars in command of the match during a quick 2-minute stretch midway through the first half.
First, the freshman from Brazil scored on an assist from Arianda Ramirez 23 minutes in for a 2-0 lead. A couple minutes later, Fagundes scored her eighth goal of the season on a penatly kick to give Barton a 3-0 lead.
The Cougars would make it 4-0 three minutes later on a Sydney Sulzman goal.
That would end up being the final goal of the game as the Barton defense shutout the Beavers. It was the sixth shutout on the season for the Cougars.
In fact, every win or tie for the Cougars has been by way of a shutout.
The Cougars are now 4-4-2 on the season with four wins by a shutout and a pair of 0-0 draws. In its four losses, Barton has scored just one goal total.
Pratt is now 1-4 in the West with the loss and 1-8 overall this season.
The Cougars quest for its first back-to-back winning streak will be a monumental task as they host Hutchinson Wednesday at the Barton Sports Complex.
Hutchinson is 9-0 on the season and 5-0 in the West. The Blue Dragons are ranked No. 16 in the NJCAA. Earlier in the season, Barton lost a 6-0 decision at Hutch. That total is more than half the of the 11 goals the Cougars have allowed this season.
