The Bearcats and Ohio State last played on Dec. 16, 2006, when Ohio State won 72-50 in Indianapolis in the Wooden Tradition.

A year ago, they were top-seeded and ranked No. 1 when they fell to Kentucky in the regional semifinals. The Skinny: Kentucky gets another crack at the Hoosiers, who beat them on a last-second 3-pointer by Christian Watford in December. Freshman point guard Marquis Teague scored a career-high 24 points in the third-round victory over Iowa State. His improvement over the season could put him in the same company of Calipari’s former floor leaders at Kentucky and Memphis, including John Wall, Brandon Knight, Derrick Rose and Tyreke Evans.
INDIANA (27-8)
Nickname: Hoosiers (Bloomington, Ind.); Coach: Tom Crean.
Conference: Big Ten. Bid: At large.

The Skinny: Indiana reaches the NCAA tournament’s round of 16 for the first time in a decade. The Hoosiers held VCU to four points over the final 12 1/2 minutes to eke out a two-point win in the third round. Indiana has its highest victory total since the 1992-93 team won 31 games.

3-pointers: Team (.386); Brady Heslip 98; Pierre Jackson 65.
Last 10: 7-3.
The Skinny: Baylor and its highlighter-yellow uniforms are headed to the round of 16, thanks to Brady Heslip’s bevy of 3-pointers and a 19-3 game-ending run against Colorado. Heslip hit nine 3s for a career 27 points. Baylor’s only losses this season are to four Big 12 teams. The Bears lost three times to Missouri, twice to Kansas, and once to Kansas State and Iowa State.

3-pointers: Team (.343); Reggie Bullock 65; Harrison Barnes 47; P.J. Hairston 38.
Last 10: 9-1.
The Skinny: Point guard Kendall Marshall had surgery on his broken right wrist and it’s unclear if he’ll return for the NCAA regional games in St. Louis. The left-handed point guard fractured the scaphoid bone — located near the thumb — when he was fouled driving to the basket during the second half against Creighton. If Marshall can’t go, the job would fall to freshman Stilman White and versatile senior Justin Watts.

Last 10: 9-1.
The Skinny: The Bobcats are the seventh team seeded No. 13 or higher to advance to the regional semifinals and the first since No. 13 Bradley did it in 2006. None of those teams won its next game. It’s their first trip to the round of 16 since they lost to Michigan in the regional finals in 1964.
NORTH CAROLINA STATE (24-12)
Nickname: Wolfpack (Raleigh, N.C.); Coach: Mark Gottfried.
Conference: Atlantic Coast. Bid: At large.

Last 10: 6-4.
The Skinny: NC State earned their first trip to the round of 16 since 2005. Quite a turnaround by first-year Wolfpack coach Mark Gottfried. The Wolfpack improved by eight wins over last season and made it to the tournament despite losing four in a row in February.

3-pointers: Team (.352); Elijah Johnson 62; Tyshawn Taylor 57; Conner Teahan 50.
Last 10: 9-1.
The Skinny: The Jayhawks erased a 10-point second-half deficit against Purdue to reach the regional semifinals. This was the third time that Kansas opened an NCAA tournament in Nebraska, and both times before it was the start of a title run. The Jayhawks played their opening games in Lincoln in 1988 and Omaha in 2008, when they won their most recent national championship.

Last 10: 8-2.
The Skinny: The Spartans are in the round of 16 for the 10th time in 15 years. Only Duke, with two more appearances, has won at least two games in NCAA tournaments more often since 1998. Tom Izzo is 7-2 in the round of 16. Since the field expanded in 1985, Draymond Green has more combined points (40), rebounds (20) and assists (16) than any other player in his first two games of an NCAA tournament.

Last 10: 7-3.
The Skinny: Louisville came into the tournament off a surprising run to the Big East tournament title and continued its winning ways. The Cardinals were ousted in the opening round of the tournament the past two years. They returned to the round of 16 for the first time since 2009. That year ended with a 64-52 loss in the Midwest Regional finals to the Spartans.

3-pointers: Team (.339); Darius Johnson-Odom 75; Jae Crowder 60.

Last 10: 6-4.
The Skinny: Florida limped into the NCAA tournament, losing four of its last five games. A fresh start seemed to work as the Gators made it to the regional semifinals for the sixth time in 12 NCAA tournament appearances under coach Billy Donovan. They did it in easy fashion with a 71-45 win over Virginia and an 84-50 rout over Norfolk State.
