GARDEN CITY — The Great Bend Boom baseball team hammered six home runs to shock the league leaders Garden City Wind 15-9 Thursday at Clint Lightner Field. Mitchell Gonsalvez (1-0) worked three innings and yielded one run.
Jonathon Tasis hit two home runs. Pecos League All-Star Logan Trowbridge drilled a three-run homer and drove in five runs.
Trowbridge’s three-run third-inning homer scored Nathan Williams and and Tevin Padgett after a double and single. Tasis followed with a homer for a 5-0 lead. Trowbridge, Tevin Padgett and Matt Rembielak drove in runs in a three-run fourth inning for a 8-2 lead.
Clayton Truex drilled a three-run homer in the fifth after Tasis was hit by a pitch and Dominique Lincoln walked. Nathan Williams homered and Darryl Baca’s sacrifice fly scored Padgett for a 13-6 lead. Lincoln homered in the sixth inning. Trowbridge singled home Padgett in the seventh inning,
Scott Torrey (4-1) yielded eight runs in four innings. The teams combined for 24 runs and 23 hits.
The Boom (17-26) returns home Saturday night against Garden City. The Pecos League All-Star Game is Tuesday at Santa Fe, N.M. Great Bend catchers Logan Trowbridge and Darryl Baca and pitcher D.J. Sharabi will compete.
