Panthers earn state qualifying times

SALINA – The Great Bend boys swimming team roared off a terrific start with state qualifying times in the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay at the Salina Central meet. Runner-up Brody Feist (23.3) qualified for the 5-1A state meet in the 50-yard freestyle. Ellis Long qualified for state in the 100-yard breaststroke. Campus (417) edged Great Bend (395) for first place.

“We had a great first meet with over 85% time improvements,” said Great Bend coach Kari Carper. “We qualified the 200 medley relay and 200 free relays for state. Brody Feist qualified for state in the 50 free and Ellis Long qualified in the 100 breast.” 

Tyler Stein, Ellis Long, Kasey Kennedy and Brody Feist (1:46.04) competed on the first-place 200 medley relay. Stein, Beau Burkhart, Long and Feist competed on the first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:38.15). Tyler Stein (52.87) won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke (1:01.83). Long (2:29.48) placed runner-up in the 200 IM. Feist (1:02.5) was runner-up in the 100 butterfly.
