Panthers' Huslig wins two WAC swim events

GARDEN CITY — Great Bend’s swimmers finished runner-up with 332 points behind team champion Garden City (399) at the Western Athletic Conference swimming championship at Garden City.

*First-place champion Matt Huslig earned All WAC team honors in the 200 freestyle (1:52.39) and 500 freestyle (5:20.82).

*The runner-up 200 medley relay, 1:52.24 (Tyler Stein, Ellis Long, Allen To, Jacob Kennedy) and the runner-up 200 Freestyle relay (1:38.64) with Brody Feist, Allen To, Daniel Abbott and Matthew Huslig surpassed state qualifying times

*The runner-up 400 freestyle relay got a state consideration time (3:43.73) with Brody Feist, Daniel Abbott, Tyler Stein and Matthew Huslig. 

*Fourth-place Daniel Abbott (24.46) and fifth-place Brody Feist (24.47) received state consideration times in the 50 freestyle.

*Fourth-place Daniel Abbott (54.98) received a state consideration time in the 100 freestyle.

“We made 36 time improvements out of 59 races,” said Great Bend coach Kari Carper.

Great Bend’s top qualifiers advance to the 5-1A state meet Friday-Saturday at Topeka.
