As goes middle hitter Brenna Haines, so goes the Great Bend High School Lady Panthers.
At least that was the case on Tuesday night at Panther Fieldhouse as Great Bend served as host to Chaparral and Cheney in a non-conference triangular — one of only three home dates for the Lady Panthers, who improved to 6-5 overall with a pair of home victories during “Jam The Gym” night.
Haines had 13 kills — six during a 25-19, 25-22 win over Chaparral and seven during a 25-15, 25-21 conquest of Cheney, a team that beat the Lady Panthers last week.
“She was on,” GBHS head coach Kelsey Perry said of Haines, a dominating 6-foot-1 junior, who also compiled five blocks during the pair of wins. “Definitely, against Cheney, she was fired up and ready to go.
“She was blocking the ball extremely well, and she was hitting the ball as well as she has all season for an entire match this year.”
When one player gets on a roll, the others seem to follow suit. Again, that was the case on this night.
“Bonny Boultinghouse struggled against Chaparral and came out against Cheney and was on a mission,” Perry said. “She played tremendous for us on the outside.”
Boultinghouse finished with eight digs, five kills and a block against Cheney.
Setter Tarynn Stueder had 15 assists and five aces against Chaparral, along with four aces against Cheney, while libero Kylee Spray had 15 digs against Cheney.
Kaylie Doll had 10 digs and seven kills vs. Cheney, and Kelsie Doll had eight eight digs and five attacks.
GBHS heads to Hutchinson on Thursday, where it will be taking part in a triangular as Goddard will also be competing. It starts at 5 p.m.
The Lady Panthers then travel to Tonganoxie for matches, starting at 8 on Saturday morning.
