ELLSWORTH— Central Plains brought a big broom over the weekend as the Oilers posted a five-match sweep to claim the Ellsworth Tournament title.
CPHS opened Saturday’s round robin event with a 25-15, 25-13 victory over Sacred Heart before edging Republic County in the first set, 26-24. The Oilers then finished off RC with a 25-11 win to claim the match victory.
In their next match the Oilers took Ellinwood in a pair of sets winning in 25-14 and 25-13 decisions over the Eagles.
The final two matches had the Oilers facing Nickerson then host team Ellsworth. Central Plains glided to a 25-18, 25-5 win over the Panthers. That set up the match with Ellsworth. The Oilers posted a 25-9 house cleaning against EHS but battled their way to a hard fought 26-24 victory in the closing set.
Taylor Rolfs combined for 47 kills over the weekend while Taylor Oeser led the defensive effort with 35 digs. Cassidy Crites recorded a team best 44 assists.
“The girls played very well for our first Saturday tournament,” said coach Kim Rolfs. “We’re very excited to see our young kids step up and do some great things.”
The CPHS JV team also won championship gold over the weekend at the Hoisington Tournament. Like the Oiler varsity the JV squad went through their entire tournament without dropping a set.
