There has been some confusion about the recent news of American State Bancshares moving to Wichita.
American State Bancshares, a Great Bend-based bank holding company with $675 million in assets, is relocating its headquarters to Wichita, said holding company President Don LacKamp.
However, LacKamp assured customers the headquarters for its namesake bank, American State Bank & Trust Co., will stay in Great Bend. The bank is under the management of President Rick Chochon and no employees of American State Bank will be moving to Wichita.
As for the holding company, LacKamp, along with the other holding company staff, all already live in the Wichita area, so he felt that it was time to move the corporate headquarters there, too.
American State Bancshares was established in 2001. Besides American State Bank, it also owns Rose Hill Bank in the Wichita area, and Peoples Exchange Bank in north central Kansas.
American State Bank opened its doors in 2001. Currently there are six branches – two in Great Bend, and one in Larned, Macksville, St. John, Garden City and Holcomb. It has 68 employees and in has $350 million in assets.
