Beran, Walz to serve as Cottonwood District extension agents

Michelle Beran

Michelle Beran and Lauren Walz began serving the K-State Research and Extension – Cottonwood District on June 2. Beran is the 4-H youth development extension agent and Walz is the horticulture agent. Cottonwood District has offices in Great Bend and Hays, and Beran will be based in Great Bend and Walz in Hays. 

Beran  earned her bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Communications and Journalism from Kansas State University.


Michelle Beran 

Beran is currently serving as the Midway District 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent. 

4-H agents develop and deliver educational programs for school-aged youth and include: supporting community clubs, out-of-school programs, school enrichment, volunteer management, and outreach to create new program opportunities with existing and new community partners.

Local extension faculty are jointly employed in a partnership between K-State Research and Extension, headquartered on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, and the local Extension board. 

The role of K-State Research and Extension is to encourage the adoption of research-based information to improve the quality of life for Kansans. K-State Research and Extension is the short name for the Kansas State University Agricultural Experiment Station and Cooperative Extension Service.

Lauren Walz

Walz earned her bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Kansas State University. She has most recently been employed as an Intern with Chatham Landscape Service Inc.

Horticulture agents develop and deliver educational programming. Topic include but are not limited to: horticulture crop production, marketing and economics, conservation of natural resources, horticulture waste management, and residential landscape management. 

 Local extension faculty are jointly employed in a partnership between K-State Research and Extension, headquartered on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, and the local Extension board.
