The winner of the United Way of Central Kansas’s Dress Down the Town jeans from the Buckle is from Great Bend High School, her name is Rosalinda Lovera. The drawing took place Wednesday evening at the store in Great Bend.
“The event took place on National Philanthropy Day Nov. 19 and was a wonderful success,” said UWCK Executive Director Julie Bugner Smith.
United Way of Central Kansas staff member Charell Ownings came up with the idea to see what a difference a dollar can make. So 46 Businesses in Barton and Pawnee County participated in the event. Employees were given a chance by their employers to wear jeans on Nov. 19, and for a dollar a chance to win a pair of jeans donated by The Buckle in Great Bend.
Over $2,000 was raised, with Marmies, followed by Holste & Bowers and Farmers Bank raising the most. Over 400 people wore jeans to support the United Way.
Sally Mauler, manager of the Buckle, said, “The event was an exciting way to support the community and United Way of Central Kansas and the 19 agencies and programs it supports. UWCK is a vital to the welfare of thousands of individuals in Barton and Pawnee County and the Buckle is a proud supporter of their cause.”
Julie Smith and the UWCK Board is thankful for all the local support and from Sally Mauler and the Buckle and plan on doing the event again next year.
