It is customary during the Christmas season to give generously and to support local charities. A group of employees at Van Wyk, Inc. proposed to take up a collection from their co-workers to do just that. Worthy causes were selected in each of the states where the company has terminals. Dave Van Wyk, President of Van Wyk, Inc., agreed to match dollar for dollar what was raised by employees up to a total of $2,000.
In less than a week employee giving exceeded the $2,000 threshold and Dave faced a decision. Should he hold the company’s share to $2,000, or match his employee’s generosity? He took their challenge and agreed to match dollar for dollar the $3,035 raised, for a total gift of $6,070.
In Iowa the funds will go toward adopting four families through the O’Brien County “Adopt a Family” program. In Virginia a donation will be made to the Salvation Army for their Angel Tree program. In Kansas, a gift will be sent to GPS Kids Club, in Hoisington.
Dave Van Wyk said, “The generosity of our employees just blows me away, time and again. We know how hard each person works to earn their paycheck, so to see how freely they give to help others really says something about their character. We have always known that our team is made up of great people, and this just confirms that fact.”
