The focus is on Spring, during the Kansas Wetlands Education Center’s new venture, the Turtle Tots Club, a new series of programs developed for preschool-age children, ages 3 to 5. The one-hour programs, offered at no charge, introduce young children to the natural world around them with sensory experiences, while reinforcing colors, shapes, math and fine motor skills. Whenever possible, sessions will include outdoor time.
Programs run from 10:30-11:30 a.m. There is a minimum enrollment of 6 and a maximum of 15 children, with pre-registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. To register for classes or for more information, call 620-566-1456 or 1-877-243-9268.
Water safari – March 12 (registration deadline March 8): Children will discover some of the amazing animals that live in Cheyenne Bottoms during the wet period by meeting some of KWEC’s animals and exploring the pond area or nature trail, depending upon water levels. They will decorate a safari hat to wear on their excursion.
Spring has sprung – March 19 (registration deadline March 15): We’ll go on a hike to find signs of Spring, play a game and make a “welcome Spring” banner.
Egg-citement – March 26 (registration deadline March 22): Children will explore eggs of all kinds and sizes, from insect to bird eggs, make an egg craft and play a fun game.
