Lisa Milton is new to the Sunflower Diversified Services Board of Directors but she already is “impressed with the staff and other board members” at the non-profit agency.
Milton, rural Hudson, is the new Stafford County board member. She joins other volunteers from Sunflower’s five-county service area.
The agency serves infants, toddlers and adults with developmental delays and disabilities in Barton, Pawnee, Rice, Rush and Stafford counties.
“I have heard about Sunflower over the years and know some of the agency’s clients here in Stafford County,” Milton said. “I acknowledge I wasn’t looking for this position when I was first approached. But it didn’t take long for me to decide I was more than willing to come on board and represent my county.”
Sunflower has a legacy of “giving people many opportunities to grow and learn new ways to become productive,” she added. “When Sunflower clients are able to work and earn a paycheck, it is so rewarding to them.
“This further encourages more productivity, which leads to the satisfying rewards of more independence at work and at home,” she continued. “Sunflower is a great organization.”
Milton is a Great Bend High School graduate and attended Barton Community College. She worked for Stafford County for 28 years; she was County Treasurer for 12 years. She and her husband, Ivan, also farm and ranch.
The Miltons have one daughter, Christa, and one son, Jacob.
“I want to use all my experiences to encourage more support for Sunflower in Stafford and the other four counties,” Milton commented. “I want to be part of giving clients opportunities to learn new skills.
“Providing employment and lifestyle options not only helps Sunflower clients but their families too. I know families are so pleased to see the levels of independence reached by their loved ones.”
Jon Prescott, Sunflower executive director, said Milton is a valuable addition to the board.
“We are blessed to have Lisa join our agency to represent Stafford County,” Prescott said. “She has a caring heart for those who need a helping hand. And her many years of experience as Stafford County Treasurer will provide us with insight into governmental affairs at the local and state levels.”
Sunflower is in its 51st year.
