With the blockbuster movie season right around the corner, the timing couldn’t be more perfect for the grand opening of Golden Belt Cinemas 6 on Friday, May 31st. The six-screen complex is the newest theater in Kansas, and the most technologically advanced facility between Wichita and Denver. “After acquiring the local theater in June of 2010 we made several improvements to the facility however we quickly moved forward with our plans to construct a new theater in the downtown district,” Somers says. “In cooperation with Bank of the West, constructing a new bank building was necessary, so that we could tear down their old one to make room for the theater. For both projects there was added focus on utilizing local contractors in effort to keep the significant capital investment in the local economy.”
Located at the corner of Lakin & Kansas Avenue in downtown Great Bend, the 17,000 square foot building greets you with a regal lobby with 26’ high ceilings and houses six theaters with a total capacity of just under 700 seats. Comfortable stadium seating will give patrons a perfect view of the entirely digital projection on larger-than-life screens, at sizes of up to 42 feet wide. The latest Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound will complete the ultimate movie going experience.
Co-owners Chad Somers and Dennis Call founded Golden Belt Entertainment Group with a vision for improving the Great Bend community. “The reason behind the near $4 million total investment goes far beyond profitability,” Somers added. “We project the theater will draw an additional 125,000 cars to the downtown area each year. This extra traffic will be great for the retail businesses, and will improve the quality of life which is critical to attracting and retaining young professionals to sustain our community in the future.”
