Watkins Calcara, Chartered, a law firm in Great Bend, announced that Taylor Calcara has recently joined the firm as an associate. Calcara Chtd. is the largest law firm based in the western half of the state and has ten lawyers affiliated with the firm. It offers a broad range of legal services focused on business, financial, agricultural and utility law and its litigation group is recognized throughout the state.
Mark Rondeau, Managing Shareholder of the firm, said “Taylor’s decision to forego more lucrative and high profile opportunities in Kansas City in order to ‘Come home’ speaks volumes about what kind of person he is. He not only has the skill set and work ethic we demand, he has the same values. We are elated to have him as a part of our growing firm.”
Taylor is originally from Great Bend, and is the son of Mark (who is the senior active member of Watkins Calcara, Chtd.) and Melanie Calcara. He is a 2005 graduate of Great Bend High School and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Finance from Kansas State University in 2009. There, he was active on campus, serving in leadership positions within his fraternity, as well as terms as a Greek Affairs Ambassador, a College of Business Ambassador, and a Student Senator representing the College of Business Administration in the Student Governing Association. While at K-State he also served internships for then Congressman, now Senator, Jerry Moran in Washington, D.C. and with Koch Industries, Inc., in Wichita.
After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State, Taylor attended the University of Kansas School of Law. He graduated in May of 2012 in the top 12% of his class. He also obtained a Business and Commercial Law certificate for his curriculum study. While at KU, Calcara was selected as the Editor-in-Chief of the Kansas Journal of Law & Public Policy and was the recipient of both the Bremyer Scholarship and the Bernard E. Nordling Scholarship.
Taylor just recently received confirmation he had successfully passed the Kansas Bar examination and is now admitted to practice before both the State and Federal Bar in Kansas.
