Barton County Young Professionals recently surpassed 600 members, according to Kristy Straub, a founding member of the steering committee.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been three years since we kick-started the Young Professionals program, but it’s been hugely successful — and time flies when you’re having fun,” Straub said. The group is open to area working adults between the age of “21 and 40-ish,” and operates under the auspices of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development.
The first BCYP mixer was held in November 2011, with 100 people in attendance.
“To grow by 600 percent in just three years is incredible, and it just shows how important this program really is,” said Candice Moeder, steering committee chairman. “We will celebrate this milestone at our next event, and we encourage new people to get involved by attending.”
The next event is a networking mixer from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, at Animal Medical Center, 622 McKinley Ave. in Great Bend. The host business will provide free food, an open bar, and free promotional products. Animal Medical Center has partnered with two other local companies to provide over $950 in gift certificates, to be given away at 7:30 p.m. Prizes include a $400 gift card from P&S Security, a $400 gift card from High Call Outfitters, and a $150 gift card from Animal Medical Center. Admission is free, and no advance reservation is required.
“Mixers are great opportunities to bring a guest so they can learn about the group,” Moeder said. “We sign up anywhere from 10-25 new members at each mixer, which is why our group keeps growing at such an impressive rate. We have exciting plans for next year’s events and community impact projects, which will be announced before the end of the year.”
