Barton County reported two additional positive cases of COVID-19 Wednesday afternoon, marking cases 11 and 12. This followed an announcement Wednesday morning of the first COVID-19-related death and the 10th positive case in the county.

One of the new cases is from rural Great Bend and the other case is from the City of Great Bend, county Public Information Officer Donna Zimmerman said. The 10th case announced earlier in the day was also from the City of Great Bend.

The fatality was one of the first nine positive cases reported in Barton County, she said. No other information was available, but the death did not occur in Barton County. 

The county continues to monitor the situation and take appropriate action, including the issuance of quarantine/isolation orders, she said. To date, 165 quarantine/isolation orders have been served with 44 remaining active.
