Barton County reported 28 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday afternoon.

The statistics were released at 5 p.m. by Barton County Public Information Officer Donna Zimmerman. It was the first update since Monday.

Of the 28 cases reported Wednesday, six were males and 22 were females. These included one person residing in Ellinwood, 13 in Great Bend, four in Hoisington and 10 in rural Barton County.

To date, Barton County has had 251 cases – 109 males and 142 females; 74 cases are active and there have been four deaths. The county has issued 1,860 quarantine or isolation orders and 507 of those remain active.

The location of cases by residence, total cases and current active, are:

Claflin - 9 - 6

Ellinwood - 17 - 2

Great Bend - 124 - 33

Hoisington - 50 - 14

Olmitz - 1 - 0

Pawnee Rock - 2 - 0

Rural Barton County - 48 - 19


Statewide

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports that as of Wednesday morning, Aug. 26, Kansas has had 39,937 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19, resulting in 2,226 hospitalizations and 437 deaths. There have been 355,160 negative tests.

KDHE’s Aug. 26 statistics also show Barton County has tested 2,650 residents with Molecular Assay Testing (such as PCR) performed by laboratory testing, resulting in 150 confirmed cases (5.66% positives). This is a rate of 102.8 tests per 1,000 population.
