Barton County reported its seventh positive case of coronavirus (COVID-19) on Monday and its eighth positive case on Tuesday. Monday’s case is an individual from Ellinwood who has a known travel history, according to Barton County’s Public Information Officer Donna Zimmerman. Tuesday’s case is also an individual from Ellinwood, but there was no additional information about that case. 

 The information included the same disclaimer as with previous cases:

“This does not mean that unidentified cases do not exist elsewhere in the county and precautions should be taken by ALL residents of the county in all areas. ...   

“We continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action, including the issuance of quarantine/isolation orders. To date (by Monday), 71 Quarantine/ Isolation orders have been served in various locations in Barton County with more to be served today.”

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reports there were 2,025 confirmed cases from 69 counties with 107 death reported as of 11 a.m. Tuesday. There have been 419 of 1,684 cases that have been hospitalized.

There have been 17,076 negative tests conducted at KDHE and private labs.

KDHE reports the following number of positive cases for area counties: Barton 8, Edwards 1, Pratt 1, Reno 14, Stafford 1. The counties with the most cases are Wyandotte 433, Johnson 384, Sedgwick 251, and Ford 187.

“This is a very serious and sometimes deadly virus,” Zimmerman stated. “We strongly encourage the public to take this pandemic seriously by practicing social distancing and staying home.

“We will continue to provide further information as it becomes available.”
