There were 620 new COVID-19 cases, four new deaths and 97 new hospitalizations between Wednesday and Friday, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported Friday. That included one additional death in Russell County, bringing the total to 29.
Elsewhere in Barton County and the counties surrounding it, the death totals were unchanged, but six new cases were reported. There have been no SARS-CoV-2 variants reported in residents of these counties.
Here are the total positive and probable COVID-19 cases for area counties, followed by total deaths:
• Barton 2,606 cases (+2 since Wednesday) - 47 deaths
• Ellsworth 1,221 (+1) - 25
• Pawnee 1,165 - 13
• Rice 1,074 (+2) - 12
• Rush 431 - 14
• Russell 858 (+1) - 29
• Stafford 339 - 9
As of Friday afternoon, 1,118,929 Kansans – 38.4% of the total population – had received one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 790,183 had received a second dose.
Ellsworth County had the highest vaccination rate in the area for its population age 16 years or older, while Barton County and Rice County had the lowest.
Here is the percentage of people 16 years of age or older who have been vaccinated with at least one dose, followed by the rate who have received the full series:

• Ellsworth 50.9% - 40.1%
