Fifth COVID-related death reported

The fifth known COVID-19 related death of a Barton County resident was confirmed Saturday in a statement from Barton County Administrator Phil Hathcock.

“Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the family, friends and caregivers.”


State and national

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported Friday, Aug. 28, that there have been 41,048 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases, resulting in 2,278 hospitalizations and 443 deaths. There have been 362,099 negative tests.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 5,845,876 total cases in the United States as of Friday, with 180,165 deaths. The USA’s total cases in the past seven days were 294,083. The CDC statistics show Kansas with 39,937 confirmed and probable cases.
