When a Great Bend couple’s plans for a destination wedding in Colorado were dashed by the novel coronavirus, Kelly Meier-Moeder, owner of Kelly’s Garden Sense, was determined to make their local backyard wedding special.

“We wanted to give them the best experience that we could,” Meier-Moeder said. While doing the couple’s backyard landscaping, she repurposed a cedar wall and found other rustic touches for the wedding. The business had a lot to choose from, including pottery and plants that would have been featured this weekend at the Home & Garden Show at the Great Bend Events Center. The show was also canceled due to the statewide stay-at-home order.

“We pulled out as many stops as possible,” she said. “We’re going to make it work for them.”

Meier-Moeder knows this wasn’t what the couple originally planned.

“I cannot imagine moving my wedding,” she said. But that just made it more important that her team do a good job. “This is the perfect time to do what’s right.”

Ready to deliver

Long before the stay-at-home order, Kelly’s Garden Sense has been focused on convenience for clients by bringing the greenhouse to them. From landscaping to lighting and pottery services, it’s all available to be brought to the front door of residences and businesses in and around Barton County.

Now with increased safety measures in place to keep clients and crews healthy while working at a safe distance, they’re encouraging people to stay home, stay safe, and let Kelly’s Garden Sense deliver a pop of color for spring and summer.

“I can bring you anything you want — within reason,” she said. “We truly will bring the greenhouse to you and your pottery too.”

She adds, “A beautiful yard, flowers and being outside can make staying home 24/7 more enjoyable. The sun is going to shine and our goal is to make more people happy by bringing flowers and an ideal landscape to make the most of their outdoor space. All without leaving home.”
