WICHITA — Friday afternoon, Wichita State University announced students taking summer courses will be taking them online. This, the WSU Strategic Communications announcement stated, was a decision made out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health, safety and well-being of the entire campus community during the COVID-19 crisis.

“While we had hoped to be able to return to some sense of normal by the summer months, the situation remains uncertain,” a letter to students and faculty from WSU Provost Rick Muma states.

There will be no changes to courses already scheduled to be online. Courses that were to be held either partially or entirely in person will move to the online format, but the university will not assess online fees for these courses.

The letter advised faculty to begin any necessary preparations to transition their courses to the new format. Summer registration is set to begin on Monday, April 6.

“I know these past few weeks haven’t been easy. I hope that providing this information now will provide some relief during these uncertain times. While we must continue to remain socially distanced from one another, I encourage you to check in – virtually – on your professors, students, classmates and colleagues and stay connected. And, most importantly, I encourage you to take care of yourself and continue to be well.”
