Edna (Macek) Klema will celebrate her 90th birthday on Jan. 8, with a card shower. A special dinner is planned with her family. She and her husband John have three children, Judy and husband Frank Ochs, and Carol and husband Kevin Wiesner, of Great Bend and the late Rick Klema and his wife Verna Klema of Hoisington; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
Edna was born on Jan. 8, 1926, to Edward and Ethel (Miller) Macek of Wilson. She has one brother, Eugene Macek of Wilson. On July 26, 1949, she married John Klema at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. The couple moved to Great Bend in 1960, and Mrs. Klema stayed home with her children until they were all in school. She attended Fort Hays Kansas State Teachers College and was a teacher for 5 years in a one room school in Ellsworth County. Mrs. Klema worked in Kirks clothing store and the ASC office in Ellsworth. After moving to Great Bend, she worked as a cook for U.S.D. 428 and at the Fuller Brush Co. as a quality control inspector and then as a billing clerk until she retired in 1997. She enjoys spending time with her family, growing  flowers, cooking, reading and shopping. She loves taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
