Katherine (Hickel) Demel of rural Odin, will celebrate her 90th birthday from 1 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 1, at Holy Family Parish Hall in Odin. Katherine was born on Nov. 1, 1925, in rural Claflin. A lifetime resident of the Claflin and Odin area, she is a homemaker. On May 18, 1948, she married August Demel at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ellinwood. He died on Feb. 10, 2008.  Katherine enjoys reading, needlework and gardening. Her children are Vernon (Janice) Demel of Moundridge, Carol (Lee) Nichol of Lakewood, Colo., Gary (Renee) Demel of Great Bend, Sharon (Bill) Eikorn of Hutchinson, Dave (Jodee) Demel of Claflin, Maurice Demel of Great Bend, Dale (Michelle) Demel of Odin, Kurt (Cindy) Demel of Larned and Kirby (Amy) Demel of Wichita; and the late Norman Demel who died in August 1960. She has 35 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
