Vivian Grossardt will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, at the Claflin United Methodist Church, Third and Hamilton in Claflin. Hosts for the reception will be her children, Jim and Linda Grossardt of Minden, Neb., Joan and Stan Sutton of Topeka, Ted and Gretchen Grossardt of Paris, Ky., and Marie and Dan Bachman of Susank. She has two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Vivian was born March 27, 1922 in rural Claflin and has been a life-long resident of the community. On Oct. 20, 1945, she married Harold Grossardt. He died Aug. 10, 2000. Together they farmed and raised four children until their retirement. Vivian is still active in the Methodist Church, serving on councils and as an organist for services.
