Warren Shirer of Hoisington will celebrate his 90th birthday on Nov. 4. His family is requesting a card shower to honor him on this milestone.
Warren was born on Nov. 4, 1927, in Three Sands, Okla., to Raymond and Elsa Leah Shirer. At the age of 9 his family moved to Kansas and lived in a Gulf lease house on the Barton-Russell County line. In May of 1945 he graduated from Hoisington High School and in November he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Occupied Japan where he was a Sergeant in the Quarter Master Corp. After his service, Warren returned to Hoisington where he operated Shirer Well Service for 37 years.
Warren married Irene Dietz in Santa Fe, N.M., on Aug. 2, 1954. They were married for 40 years before Irene passed away Sept. 7, 1994. He has two children: son, Brad Shirer and wife Sarah of Great Bend and daughter Kayla Griffin and husband Steve of Salina; and grandchildren Kristen and Scott Seager, Phoebe, Griffin and Joel Seager of Denver, Colo., and Nolan and Jackie Griffin of Marian.
