The holidays are a great time to reconnect with people in your neighborhood and community. We all get so busy with life that we often go months or even years without seeing or visiting with the very people who live close by.

A great way to break that pattern is with a sweet treat. One of my favorites is my chocolate Chow Mein treats. They are so easy but so delicious. They also last longer than other sweets like breads or cookies, which is a nice thing this time of year, when you usually have loads of edible gifts.

These sweets are a bit chaotic looking, but the combination of sweet, salty and crunchy is hard to resist. I like to use both butterscotch and chocolate chips to give the treats a little flavor twist, but you can use any type of baking chip you desire. Once they are made and have hardened, I simply put them in festive, sealable gift bags and we are ready to make our rounds.

Belles Chocolate Chow Mein Treats

1 cup chocolate chips

1 cup butterscotch chips

1 (12 ounce) bag Chow Mein noodles

In a large microwave-safe bowl, place the chocolate and butterscotch chips. Microwave for one minute. Stir and continue to microwave, stopping and stirring every 30 seconds until chips are melted. Add the bag of Chow Mein noodles and carefully stir to coat.

Drop by tablespoon sized clumps onto a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Let cool. They will be hardened and ready to go in about an hour.
