Christkindlemarket set for Dec. 3
Christkindlemarket 2023
A visit from St. Nicholas is expected in Ellinwood Sunday, Dec. 3, as the community celebrates Christkindlemarket downtown.

ELLINWOOD — The community of Ellinwood will be celebrating its 11th annual Christkindlemarket from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3 downtown.

The roots of its heritage run deep in the community that was settled by German immigrants in the late 1800s.

In addition to an open fire pit, live music, more than 15 vendors and shopping opportunities, there will be hay rack rides, food & crafts and an appearance by St. Nicholas.

Cookies and vintage dolls

The event is especially important for the local Ellinwood Historical Society, which hosts its Cookies by the Pound Fundraiser at the Ellinwood Heritage Center, 103 North Main, from 12:30-5 p.m. The fundraiser includes free admission with complimentary hot chocolate and apple cider at the Ellinwood Museum across the street. In addition, four vintage porcelain dolls will be raffled. Cost per ticket is $5, with a book of three available at $10. The drawing is slated at the Heritage Center at 4 p.m.

Gingerbread houses

At the Ellinwood School/Community Library, 210 N. Schiller, the Ellinwood High School KAYS Club is again hosting a gingerbread house-building party Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for Christkindlmarket. Youth of any age may call the Library at 620-564-2306 to sign up for a 30-minute time slot. Deadline to call is Nov. 30. Christmas movies will be playing in Daulton’s Room, with the green screen available for winter and Christmas scenes to choose for a photo shoot.
