Great Bend Eagles No. 646 will hold a barbecue cook-off on Saturday, June 21, with a live band in the evening. The contest will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the dance with Ronnie and the Rockets will run from 7 to 11 p.m.
Cooks are encouraged to register now by calling 639-1736, or via email at foeagles@ruraltel.net, but walk-ons will be welcome. There are categories for chicken, ribs and brisket, and cooks are welcome to enter as many as they wish. Entrants will purchase one brisket or two racks of ribs at the Eagles, or supply their own chicken (10 pounds). They may cook on wood or charcoal — no gas allowed.
Cash prizes and plaques will be awarded.
Admission for food and the band will be $10.
Sponsors plan to make this an annual event.
