Barton Community College will host its fourth annual Sidewalk Art Contest April 19-21 on the sidewalk outside the College’s Shafer Gallery.

The contest is open to artists, high school age and above, from Great Bend, Claflin, Ellinwood and Hoisington, and any home-schooled high school students in the Barton area. Artists wishing to participate must register and pick up their free chalk at the Shafer Gallery between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on any of those three days, but they must have their work completed by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21. Anyone needing additional information about registering may call the Shafer Gallery, 620-792-9342.

Gallery Director Dave Barnes will judge the sidewalk art and award the prizes. The art can be done by individuals or by several artists on a team. Prizes to be awarded are three $100 vouchers for Barton art class tuition and/or Barton Bookstore art supplies. If a team is a winner, team members will split the $100 award.

For more information about the Sidewalk Art Contest, contact Barton art instructor Steve Dudek, 620-792-9260, or Barton’s Dean of Academics Dr. Rick Abel, 620-792-9333.
