The dynamic demographics of the United States come with many advantages, but they also present some challenges, like communication barriers.
Barton Community College, with the help of Command Spanish Inc., is working to bridge the communication gap between English and Spanish-speaking individuals with a month-long workshop titled “Command Spanish for the Community.”
The classes are set for 6-8:30 p.m. Mondays from March 31 through May 5 in the Math & Science Building at Barton Community College, room S-151. The registration deadline is Monday, March 17.
The course will focus on three main components:
- Speaking in Spanish: Learn how to say practical, common phrases in Spanish.
- Listening in Spanish: Learn to comprehend basic and common phrases used in everyday Spanish that correspond with the Speaking in Spanish component.
- Cross-Cultural Issues: Learn some of the most fundamental and generic, non-national specific aspects of Latino culture that may be misunderstood by non-Latinos.
The instructor for the course will be Mercedes Helms. Students will earn one credit-hour for this course.
